09-10 U 10 - Novice - Silver Lining at Regionals
Submitted By Erin Wilson on Wednesday, March 31, 2010
What a competitive weekend in Guelph for the Novice U10's!

Starting early Friday morning, we faced off against Kitchener. With a strong showing, we knew after the first period we would have to hold them off - everyone wanted to win at Regionals. Going into the second period we did just that and came away with our first win of the weekend.

With the afternoon to refuel we headed back onto the ice for a 4 p.m. game against rival London - a team we've played a handful of times in regular season - this game was full throttle from the second the clock started. London was all over us, back and forth went the score with a loss of 7-6 for Goderich.

Saturday was a new day, facing off against local HP team Forest for a spot in the gold medal game - we had to come a way with a win and the pressure was on. A strong lead got the girls confidence going, but we let up enough to allow Forest to inch closer to a win. The second period was a nail biter, with Goderich rallying to pull off the winning goal with only a couple of minutes left on the clock - off to the gold medal game on Sunday!

Up bright and early for our 8 a.m. game against London, the girls took to the ice against London again, playing for gold. London took an early lead in the first, but we answered back and defensive play was strong against the aggressive London Lynx. They pulled a head and went on to score 4 in total - Goderich goal tending was stellar, despite the loss, and all the girls should be thrilled to come home with Silver around their necks.

Great weekend of competition - congratulations Novice U10's!
