Goderich Juniors 1-1 In Playoffs
The Goderich Junior ringette team were firing on all cylinders on Monday night at the Memorial arena and are batting .500 in the playoffs of the Huron-Perth league. The ladies notched one in the win column over the visiting London Lynx, 5-3 in front of a raucous, standing room only crowd.
Strong offensive play from the Goderich ladies ensured a successful outcome to this contest. Jayme Austin and Jessica Hummel each had a three point night when both rifled home two goals each and single assists as well.
Hummel scored first for the Goderich ladies, with Colby Hillier and Kira Trebish adding the helpers. Austin drilled the next marker five-hole after a creative pass from Carling MacKenzie. London was not to be out-done and responded with a quick pair themselves resulting in a two-all tie after the first period.
London jumped to a 3-2 lead after a power-play goal until Goderich was sparked by goalie Meredith McEwan's sensational netminding skills. The Juniors hammered home three unanswered goals by Austin, Chandal Cunningham and Hummel to take the win. It should be noted here that Cunningham has been on a goal-streak lately when using a borrowed, yet magical ringette stick......Assisting on the final three tallies were Ashley Johnson, Hummel, Austin, Colby Hillier and Captain Erin Dietrich.
Jenna Pentland was impressive with her great passing plays and Marijke Oudshoorn was a defensive force to be reckoned with the whole game.
Next up for the Junior ladies in this round robin playoff schedule is Exeter, tommorrow night at 6:30 pm at the Memorial arena again.
