Never Give Up Attitude
When Goderich's Junior Ringette team began the season in October of 2008 they had eleven skaters and a goalie. When they launched in to overtime at the season ending tournament called "Regionals" against Seaforth on Sunday, March 29 2009 at the RBC ice pad in Stratford - they were down to eight skaters and a goalie. This fact became too much to overcome, and the season tilted in Seaforths' favour.
Goderich began the tournament with two losses - the first to London Lynx and the second to Exeter. This did not deter the ladies and Saturday night they tied their nemesis from the entire year, Seaforth, 6-6.
That result left the bronze medal game to be decided with Seaforth on Sunday afternoon. In what can only be described as a gutsy and tenacious effort, the two teams battled to a four all tie at the end of regulation. It seemed only fitting that the teams that were so evenly matched thoughout the season needed 15 minutes of sudden death overtime to decide who departed with the medal.
As already mentioned, the Goderich bench was severely depleted with three players unable to participate, however both teams traded incredible scoring chances and caused many a spectator and parent to convulse and cheer in the span of mere seconds. Over 12 minutes of non-stop action at both ends of the rink halted when Seaforth fired a shot into the Goderich net. Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, it was a heart-breaker second to none.
Despite the end of the season, the Juniors ended the year with many positive achievements. The ladies can certainly hold their heads high because they never gave up and delivered a final gutsy preformance that could have gone either way. The team ended off with a respectable fourth in the Huron-Perth Standings, won a gold medal in the Exeter Tournament, galvanized an incomparable team spirit and created new bonds of friendship.
Congratulations on a great season ladies - take that "never give up" attitude everywhere you go !!
