Pumped for the Mitchell Tournament, the girls took to the ice looking for a win.
As they faced off against tournament hosts, Mitchell Black, the girls started the game off with their first goal less than two minutes into the game. Chloe snuck one past the goalie with the help of wingers Emily and Sarah, that was just the beginning. We finished out the first period with a second goal on a whiz-bang play, scored by defensive player Mallory, who stepped into Mitchell's end with lightening speed and a little help from forward Melly. It was 2-a for Goderich and the girls were pumped!
We took our lead a little further with two more goals early in the second half, scored my Marley and Chloe, assisted again by Emily. With our defense, Mallory, Emma, Hailey and Grace, surrounding goal tender Faith, Mitchell was having trouble breaking into our end. They managed two more before the end of the game, making it a 4-3 win for Goderich. On to game two, we headed to Mitchell to face-off against London. A tougher game, the girls played hard and managed 3 goals, but London answered each of them and put distance on the score board, coming away with a win.
We would have to wait until the morning to see what game three would look like against league dominators, Forest. A strong showing by Goderich, with huge improvements since we first met Forest at the start of the season, we worked out 5 goals - Marley, assisted by Jayden & Sydney, Jayden assisted by Lauren, Lauren assisted by Haley - everyone was getting in on the scoring action! Forest stepped a head with a final score of 8-5 in their favour. The tournament was over for us...on to league play against Seaforth on Sunday.
With everyone rested up, we faced-off against Seaforth at the MRC for a matinee game. Another great display of team work brought some scoring opportunities and defensive plays that showed the girls are making progress with every game. Mallory, Marley, Lauren and Faith all netted themselves at least one goal each, with the assistance of Hailey, Jayden and Emily. Sydney stood tall between the pipes with some incredible saves and great support from her defense, Emma and Grace. But Seaforth took the lead and ended the game with a 9-5 win against Goderich.
Each player is showing great improvement and skill building - good job girls!
