Belle Squad 2-0 In Playoffs
The filled-to-capacity crowd last night at the Mitchell Coliseum were treated to a cliff-hanger of a game that went to sudden victory for the Goderich U19 crew when Assistant Captain Katie O'Brien drilled a backhand rifle shot over the Mitchell goalie's left shoulder.
The U19 team were shorthanded at the time however Jessica Hummel threaded a pass to the flying O'Brien who sealed the deal at the 7:25 mark in the first overtime frame.
Hummel began the scoring for Goderich in the first period, unassisted, when she was left alone in the slot and drilled a low screamer, stick side to bulge the twine.
Mitchell replied and the two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 until Shayla Mathers found Captain Holly Ryan in the clear and Ryan wristed one of her patented laser-snipes to the top corner, stick side.
As you guessed by now, Mitchell replied late in the final frame and the two squads were off to sudden-victory and as they say, the rest is history.
The final game in the round robin playoffs is against Forest on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at Memorial Arena.
Championship day is March 19, time and location to be determined.
