Another Great Win for the Goderich Novice Team
Submitted By c strickland on Friday, January 27, 2012
The Goderich Novice team travelled to London on Friday, January 20th to take on the London Lynx. Hannah Kent was in net and right off the bat was tested and did an outstanding job! Her defensive lines consisting of Grace Mayhew, Ella Wick, Katie Ridsdale and Zoe Milne did a fantastic job in support of her and were integral in the offensive firestorm that Goderich had.
In the first period Lauren Smith had 5 goals, 4 unassisted and one assisted by Emily Alexander. Sarah Strickland had 2 goals assisted by Grace Taylor and Tatum Rivers respectively. At the end of the period, Grace Taylor scored assisted by Sarah but due to confusion with 2 injured London players on the ice, the referee failed to officially tell the score keepers and it was not put on the score board or score sheet. Our coaches assure us that it was not waved off but just an oversight by the referee while helping a London player off the ice and unfortunately was not corrected. Hannah finished the period with some outstanding saves and great help from Ella in particular who constantly cleared the ring! The period ended with a 7-4 lead for Goderich.
Goderich came out still firing in the second period and the goal scoring continued. Lauren got her 6th goal of the game unassisted, Sarah got a goal assisted by Grace Taylor and Grace Taylor got 2 goals with assists going to Zoe and Sarah. Michaela Alcock. Mellie McClinchey, Tatum Rivers and Emily Alexander all had great games as well. The game ended with an 11-7 win for Goderich.
The next game for the Goderich Novice team is on Sunday, January 29th when they once again travel to London to take on another London team.
