Outstanding Weekend of Ringette!
Submitted By C Strickland on Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Saturday February 18thThe Goderich Novice team travelled to Tillsonburg with a short bench, so everyone had to play tough throughout the game.  A special kudos to the defense of Emily, Hannah and Ella who all worked hard to protect Melly in net.  Tillsonburg scored first but the Goderich team responded with 7 unanswered goals.  The scoring got off to a roaring start by Sarah with a fantastic assist by Michaela.  Lauren made it 2-1 with an unassisted goal.  Midway through the first period, Michaela stole the ring at the blue line, headed straight for the net and buried it!!!  It was her first goal and it was a beauty!  Awesome job Michaela!!!

Melly continued to make some outstanding saves throughout the game.  Lauren finished off the period with 2 more goals one assisted by Grace Mayhew.  Goderich started the second period with a 5-1 lead and Grace T scored a beautiful goal after she and Sarah completed a textbook give and go behind the net.  Lauren went on to score 3 more goals, one assisted by Emily.  Emily got Goderich's 10th goal by coming in from defense with an assist by Sarah.  Tillsonburg managed to score twice more but were no match for the Goderich team which finished with a 10-3 win.

Sunday, February 19th
On Sunday London travelled to Goderich to take on the girls.  They were two evenly matched teams and this led to one of the most exciting and fantastic games of the season to watch.  The teamwork between the girls was phenomenal and the passing was outstanding.  London scored first but Goderich answered quickly with a fantastic goal by Jordyn assisted by Tatum and Emily.  Hannah was in net and made some wonderful saves.  Goderich made it 2-1 with a goal by Sarah assisted by Jordyn.  The back and forth action continued with Goderich's defense being rock solid which led to the period ending with Goderich leading 2-1.  Great job Grace Mayhew, Katie, Emma and Melly.

The girls came out to start the second period still on the power play after the London goalie took a slashing penalty.  They made it count with a great goal by Emily assisted by Emma.  London scored to cut Goderich's lead to one.  Sarah worked hard in front of the net and was rewarded with a great goal to make it 4-2.  Everyone dug deep and Hannah made a fantastic save on a London breakaway shot to keep the 2 goal lead.  Outstanding checking by Emily, Sarah, Jordyn and Ella throughout the game and great job by Tatum, Gracie and Zoe who also worked hard to help their offensive lines.  The seesaw end to end action continued and London managed to score 2 goals to tie the game 4-4.  With only a couple of minutes left in the game, Gracie McAuley managed to put one past the goalie assisted by Jordyn.  This was Gracie's first goal of the season and it couldn't have come at a better time as it put Goderich up one goal with only 2 minutes left to play.  Way to go Gracie!  London managed to tie it up with only 43 seconds left in the game and Goderich tried valiantly to go ahead again but the game ended in a  5-5 tie.  The level of play was outstanding and it was fantastic to see their hard work pay off and to witness the teamwork that was demonstrated.  Great job girls!

The girls play again next Saturday, February 25th at 11 am in Tillsonburg.
