U19 Win Gold In Playoffs
Submitted By khummel on Sunday, April 1, 2012
The U19 Goderich ringette team had a season that can only be described as a roller-coaster ride for the ages.   They started the season off by reeling off seven wins and one loss and then went winless for seven straight.

During the drought they began to claw back their confidence and won the Waterloo Winterfest Tournament in convincing fashion.   The team then returned home and began to gel as a team with a new goalie and a new attitude.   Finally, the Goderich Belles reached the pinnacle of their game and went undefeated at the year end Ringette tourney in Guelph and were rewarded with Championship medals !

Goderich - 7    London - 5

The round robin playoffs began with a gutsy win over London on Friday afternoon.   London had Goderich's number all season long- but not today boys and girls.   Goderich came out on top 7-5 and were bolstered by a gutsy performance between the pipes by netminder Kassie Nethery.  Captain Holly Ryan set the tone for the tournament with her two goals and an assist in this opening game.

Goderich - 9   Waterloo - 4

The Belle squad was back on the ice on Friday night against Waterloo and ran into some early penalty trouble.   Goderich were down 2-0 early on, but quickly found their legs and filled the net with rings.   Assistant Captain Jessica Hummel lead the scorers with two goals.

Goderich - 5   Kitchener - 1

The U19 crew put together one of their best team games of the year during this contest, with Ryan bulging the twine three times for the hat-trick, Amanda Menchenton with a single and Shayla Mathers with a single as well.  Assists went to Ryan, Kira Trebish, Kait Fisher and Hummel.

Goderich - 4   Seaforth - 3

This game proved to be an incredible see-saw battle between two Huron County teams and a true spectacle for the lucky ones in the stands.   Goderich jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a sniper-shot goal by Assistant Captain Lauren Dietrich, after a nifty pass play from Jacqueline Bedard and Jenna Pentland.   The second goal for Goderich was an absolute rifle shot to the top corner, stick-side, by Amanda Menchenton.  Assists on this goal went to Hummel and Mathers.   The third goal was Dietrich's second of the game after a sweet pass from Ryan and Bedard.

Regulation time solved nothing and the teams went into overtime notched at 3 all.

At the 2:17 mark, Jenna Pentland fired home the winnning goal after converting a dynamite pass play from Dietrich and Ryan - sending the team home with gold medals.
