The 2013/14 ringette season is officially underway as the Goderich Ringette Association hosted their annual tournament at the MRC on October 25 – 27th. Sporting new uniforms, logo, and a new name, the U12 Petite Division showed very quickly that there is very little separation between the two local teams.

Both local teams mirror one another with solid goaltending, highly skilled veterans, and, talented and energetic rookies. The Goderich Blue squad started the tournament with a hard fought 5-3 win over a determined team from Mitchell. Faith Wilson opened the scoring for the Crushers on a nifty set up by Avery Cross. After a Mitchell goal, Chloe Lewis replied twice with the help of Hannah Greer, Arden Bowler, and Camryn Austin to preserve the victory. The next morning saw the two local teams face off against one another for the first time ever as many of these players are good friends and have always been teammates in their respective age groups for many years. When the ring was put in play, these two talented local teams put on a show. Wilson, on a great pass from Katie Ridsdale, opened the scoring in the first minute only to have Team White respond 9 seconds later to tie the game. Goaltender, Hannah Kent, was kept very busy throughout this game by a very talented White squad. Another notable performance was the 2 assists by the hard working Melanie McClinchey. These two teams traded goals right to the final buzzer leaving a well deserved 6-6 tie. A winless Seaforth/Exeter team was standing before a Goderich Blue trip to the Gold Medal game. The locals came out very tentative in this game. Wilson and Lewis continued to score timely goals. Greer, McClinchey, and Cross kept helping out to hang on for a 5-3 win. The Gold Medal saw a rematch of the 2 Goderich teams. Temika Walters  (who scored a highlight goal) and Ella Wick with defence partners Ridsdale and McClinchey were tested early and often by a relentless White attack. Again, these two teams traded goals for 27 minutes until Lauren Smith was able to find the back of the Blue net on a great pass from Ben Craig to give the White an 8-7 Championship victory. These two teams represented our Town extremely well all weekend and continued their first class sportsmanship right through the medal presentations and final handshakes. The Goderich Blue travel to London on Saturday, November 2nd and then return home for their first league home game on Sunday the 3rd.
