Start up the Pumper, fire up the ladder truck!!! Goderich Blue came through in an exciting U12 Gold medal game to capture the Ron Ferguson Memorial Ringette Tournament in Exeter.

The locals entered this tournament on the heels of a tough league game at Memorial Arena versus the Mitchell Stingers. The Ice Crushers were enjoying a late lead when the visitors scored with 1 second left to tie the undefeated Crushers 4-4. Chloe Lewis had three goals with Faith Wilson also scoring. Hannah Greer and Ella Wick had strong games contributing 3 and 2 assists respectively.

Coach Erin Wilson did a great job of getting the girls re-focused for the Exeter tournament. Goderich opened the tournament on November 16th versus the host Avalanche. Chloe Lewis opened the scoring early on a feed from Katie Ridsdale and Arden Bowler. Exeter replied quickly, but, they wouldn’t get another ring past Hannah Kent due to the strong play of Temika Walters, Ella Wick. Grace Demelo, and Melanie McClinchey on defence. The Ice Crushers had goals by Lewis(4), Ridsdale(3), Wilson, and Greer to coast to a 9-1 win.

Paris presented the locals with a tough challenge in their second game of the day. Faith Wilson was dominant in this game from start to finish with her speed and skill. With the score 3-2, Goderich goalie Hannah Kent stopped two Paris breakaways. After a Paris goal, Avery Cross fed Wilson a nifty pass to give the locals the lead. Ridsdale then scored a short handed goal on a pass from Walters to give Goderich a 5-3 lead. After a Paris goal, Walters had a dominating shift displaying power in drawing  a penalty, and then scoring immediately on the power play to help Goderich to a 9-4 lead at the break.

A good penalty by Demelo to stop a scoring chance followed by the usual high energy of Wick in the final frame paid dividends as Cross scored her 2nd goal of the season. Paris never quit in this game but ran out of time as Goderich won 13-8 to send the locals to the Gold Medal game.

The next day in Hensall saw a rematch versus Paris. In the final, Paris came out flying and was the better team early on with some nice passing and hard skating. Our Ice Crushers came out very flat, and, were fortunate to still have the game within reach early on. Some good play by Cross helped spring Greer free for a goal. Lewis then scored on a nice feed from Bowler. Paris went ahead 5-2 at the 9:05 mark and were cruising until Walters and Wick started to make a difference from the back end in setting up Wilson to tie the game. Lewis scored twice late on feeds by Ridsdale and Bowler to take a 9-6 lead into the final period. Paris never went away in this game, making it 10-9 late. Some determined work by Wick helped Lewis, Greer, and Ridsdale seal the gold medal game at 13-9 for the hometown Crushers.
