U12 PETITE BLUE ICE CRUSHERS STILL GOING STRONG

Early December has seen some mixed results for the U12 Blue ringette team. Coach Wilson warned the players that things would begin to tighten up in the WRRL with 3 tough games in late November and early December.

On November 30th, they travelled to St. Thomas for an early 6-2 road win. Hannah Kent was stellar in goal and was boosted by the steady defensive performance of Temika Walter who had an assist. Chloe Lewis led the attack with 3 goals, followed by Sarah Strickland with 2 and Hannah Greer with 1. Local favourite, Ella Wick, was buzzing around the ice all game.

The next day the Blue Crushers had a date with their cross town rivals in Team White at the MRC. These two teams have been almost inseparable and this game did not disappoint as both teams came out flying en route to an eventual 5-5 draw. Lewis continued to carry a hot stick scoring the hat trick. Veteran speedsters Faith Wilson and Greer chipped in singletons. Assists went to hard working winger Arden Bowler, Wick, and Melanie McClinchey.

On Sunday, December 8th, a very determined Tillsonburg Twister team made the trip to the MRC. Goderich spent the early part of this game continually getting stymied by the quality saves of the Twisters’ net minder. Some excellent neutral zone play by Grace Demelo enabled forwards Walter, Bowler, and Katie Ridsdale to create some excellent scoring chances. In the home end, Kent was equal to the task making many great saves to keep side in the game. With Tillsonburg ahead 2-0, winger Avery Cross did some nice work to get an excellent scoring opportunity. Facing a 4-0 deficit in the final frame, the Crushers were given a spark as Greer was rewarded for two great shifts by setting up Lewis for a pair of goals to make a game. When Wilson scored to make it 5-3 with just over four minutes left, the home fans began to get excited. While killing a penalty, Wilson and Ridsdale created many opportunities eventually leading to a goal by Ridsdale with just 55 seconds remaining prompting Coach Wilson to take a strategic time out. The Ice Crushers left everything on the ice in the final minute narrowly missing a buzzer beater as the Twisters left Sifto arena with a hard fought 5-4 victory.

The Blue squad now have a week off as they prepare for a road trip to Dorchester on December 15th before heading into the Christmas break.
