The U12 Petite Ringette program has had a great first half of the ’13-14 season amassing many victories along the way. It is fair to say that the second half of this season will present some great challenges for these two teams as they continue to develop their skills against competitive teams throughout southwestern Ontario and beyond.

On January 6th, the U12 Blue and White got together at Memorial Arena for a post holiday Ice Crusher game. These two teams showed early on that they enjoy playing one another as the skill level is high on both sides and they challenge each other from start to finish. Goaltenders Hannah Kent and Joey Craig made it very clear early on that this game was going to be very difficult to win making many fantastic saves.

Team White was rewarded for some hard work in the first with a 2-1 lead even though Grace Demelo and Temika Walter made some great defensive plays. Down 3-1, Chloe Lewis scored on the heels of some hard work by Katie Ridsdale and Hannah Greer. Shortly after, Avery Cross sprung Faith Wilson loose for a goal to knot things up at three. Some notable mentions go out to Ella Wick for her relentless defending, and, to Camryn Austin for her stellar offensive work as an underage call up.

These two teams appeared to be heading for another tie at the tail end of a late penalty kill by Blue. However, White used a late surge to capitalize with 15 seconds remaining to skate away with a 4-3 victory.

January 12 saw the Petite Blue Ice Crushers hosting a Dorchester team that really moved the ring well. Kent played fantastic in goal and was tested early and often by a Dorchester team that really did a great job of passing in the offensive zone. Trailing 1-0, Melanie  McClinchey and Ella Wick made some outstanding defensive plays which seemed to spark Hannah Greer and Katie Ridsdale in setting up Faith Wilson to tie things up at one after the first.

The second period was back and forth from start to finish leaving both teams’ Parents speechless at times. The defence pairing of Grace Demelo and Temika Walter dominated for many shifts helping the hard working Ridsdale and the most improved Arden Bowler to set up Chloe Lewis for a tying goal. Bowler has been such a pleasant surprise with her much improved skating and confidence for the game.

Both teams traded chances down the stretch with the goalies continuing to dominate. In the end, this game fittingly ended in a 2-2 tie.

Next up for Petite Blue is a trip to St. Mary’s on January 21st to face a very good ringette club.
