On January 21st, the Goderich Petite Blue Ice Crushers travelled to St. Marys’ for a pivotal Western Regional Ringette League game at the Pyramid Centre. Team Blue had some good preparation time leading up to this game versus a challenging Snipers’ team. Coaches’ Wilson, Lewis, and Kent had worked extremely hard to prepare their team for a good effort. On a night that was ridiculously cold, Team Blue was “hot as a firecracker” on the Pyramid ice.

Starting goalie, Hannah Kent, duelled early and often with her St. Marys’ counterpart with many incredible saves being made. Both teams had many glorious chances that were thwarted at both ends of the rink in the early proceedings.

Strong skating Chloe Lewis had a very good game from start to finish with dominant play at both ends of the rink. The Crushers were clinging to a 2-1 lead at the break powered by a couple of goals by sniper Faith Wilson aided by the strong play of Hannah Greer and Arden Bowler.

The final period saw the Goderich defence pairings of Temika Walter/Grace Demelo and Melanie McClinchey/Ella Wick absolutely take over this game with their speed and effort especially in the neutral zone completely shutting down the highly skilled Sniper forwards.

Katie Ridsdale, with her biggest effort of the season, was rewarded for her work with a huge goal to extend the lead.

The Snipers never quit narrowing the gap on a nice play to beat Kent. However, Avery Cross did some yeomans’ work to spring Lewis free to help send the Ice Crushers back to Goderich with a 4-1 win.

Coach Wilson couldn’t say enough good things about her defence after this game as the quartet of Demelo, Walter, Wick, and McClinchey were simply outstanding.
