PETITE WHITE ICE CRUSHERS SPLIT BUSY WEEKEND
Submitted By dridsdale on Tuesday, December 16, 2014
On Saturday, December 13th, Goderich White had an early start to a busy December weekend when they travelled to St. Thomas Memorial Arena to take on the Thunder. Just over a minute into the contest, Katie R. benefitted from some strong defensive play by Shalen K. and Grace T. to give the visitors the lead.

The other defensive pairing of Kiara P. and Amelia D. came out playing strong also with some awesome corner work in their own zone.

After a Thunder equalizer, shifty wingers Olivia A. and Camryn A. displayed some great effort in the St. Thomas zone. Novice call up, Jordan A., had a great shift with talented under ager Lizzie P. forcing the Thunder defenders to spend a lot of time in their own zone. This hard work helped set the stage for Grace T. to score two quick goals on some nifty passing from Ben C. and Camryn A. giving Goderich a 3-1 advantage. The Thunder responded with a lot of pride in their old barn making the score 3-2 after the first.

After the Crushers failed to convert on an early power play in the final frame, the Thunder evened things up. Ben C. put the visitors ahead again, but, the home Thunder scored two quick tallies to take a lead that they would not relinquish.

With the Crushers reeling, Kiara P., Grace T., Amelia D., and, Shalen K. gave their team a boost with a great penalty kill. However, in the end, the visitors seemed to have nothing left in the tank as they were sent back to goderich to regroup suffering an 8-4 loss.

The following day, Crusher goalie, Joey C., bounced back after a tough game against some highly skilled St. Thomas shooters. This young ring stopper displayed some excellent skill between the pipes giving Coach Simons’ team a great confidence boost against the visiting Dorchester Dragons.

Versatile veteran, Megan K. opened the scoring at the 13:05 mark on a feed from Ben C. And Lizzie P. Neatly depositing her shot past a helpless Dragons goalie. Katie R. then converted on a nice passing play from Megan K. Olivia A. Putting the home side up 2-0. Following some determined work by Camryn A., Lizzie P. scored again. Grace T. then proceeded to dance around the outside perimeter on a penalty kill before burying a beautiful goal and a 4-0 Ice Crusher lead. The dragons finally finally solved the Goderich goalie with 31 seconds left in the period.

The final period saw the speedy Kiara P. dash any Dorchester hopes of a comeback scoring early to make it 5-1. Also moving up to the forward line in the final frame were Shalen K. and Amelia D. who used their speed and passing to spring Ben C. on a breakaway coasting to a well deserved 9-2 home win.
