The Western Region Ringette League Western Division has been a difficult league to navigate through with strong programs in St. Thomas and Mitchell leading the way. Beyond second is a different story as both Goderich Blue and White fit very nicely with the middle of the pack. Both Ice Crusher teams are battling hard to put themselves in a position to move up in the standings.

Team White helped themselves out immensely during the week of January 22 – 25th by earning two consecutive hard fought victories. After a slow start in January with two losses and a tie, Coach Simon was thrilled that his club responded playing some excellent ringette in the process to build their record to 10-7-4.

On Thursday, January 22nd, Memorial Arena was rocking as Team White was facing off versus Team Blue in what promised to be an excellent game. Team Blue came out flying early peppering young goaltender J. Craig often going up 2-0 on goals by A. Bowler and K. Goud. Late in the opening frame, Team White responded with B. Craig netting a pair of goals on nifty passing from S. Kernighan and O. Allen. K. Ridsdale gave the White squad their first lead of the contest thanks to some excellent offensive work by L. Peterson and last minute call up D. Hesse.

In the final frame, the stellar defensive play continued at both ends with Team White getting a huge boost from the hard work of G. Taylor, A. Denomme, K. Plumsteel, and, C. Austin.

Hesse continued to impress when she capitalized to put White up 4-2. Bowler notched her second goal of the game to make things very interesting down the final stretch. However, Ridsdale tallied with 1:21 remaining on a feed from Kernighan to finally allow White to skate away with the victory.

Sunday, January 25 saw the U12 White Crushers travel to Dorchester for a midday tilt with the Dragons. The Dragons were soundly beaten in December by the locals, but, the Coaching Staff reminded these young Crushers that this would be a much better team on their home rink. The team received a welcome boost as the always hard working M. Kovats returned to the lineup from illness. However, the team was forced to travel to Dorchester without their goaltender J. Craig.

S. Kernighan stepped into the crease for the Crushers quickly proving that she is not only an offensive threat at forward, but, a very capable ring stopper as well. Ridsdale opened the scoring as Taylor silenced the Dragon crowd with a great pass. After Dorchester evened things up, B. Craig made it 2-1 with assists going to Kovats and Allen. Ridsdale gave the visitors a two goal lead with another assist from Taylor. The defence of Denomme, Plumsteel, Austin, and, Peterson were simply awesome as Kernighan was continually being tested by a determined Dragon team. Plumsteel was rewarded for her efforts with an assist on a B. Craig goal to once again put Goderich up by two. The trio of Craig, Kovats, and Allen delivered once again to put the Crushers  ahead 5-2 at the recess.

Craig scored his fourth goal of the game on a nice feed from Allen who hit a milestone of her own recording 3 assists. The Dragons frantically stormed back peppering Kernighan with many quality chances, keeping the visiting parents on the edge of their seats. However, the Ice Crushers were able to escape back to the Prettiest Town with a 6-4 victory.

Team White will get tested again on Super Bowl weekend as they travel to St. Marys to battle a very skilled Sniper squad before returning home for an 11:30 am tilt at the MRC where they will host a much improved Exeter/Seaforth team
