TWEEN CRUSHERS DOMINATE THUNDER

If the U14 Ice Crushers were going to continue their winning ways in St. Thomas to begin the second half of their W.R.R.L. schedule, they were going to have to do it without five of their regular players in the line up.

Rookie goal tender, Hannah K., knew that her team mates would be skating hard, and, she was not disappointed. Less than three minutes into the contest, Sarah Strickland set up Ben C. to put the visitors on the board. Ben C. added another two minutes later when he pounced on an open ring after some great work by Lauren S. in controlling the neutral zone play. Kiara P., who had a fantastic game from start to finish, was rewarded for her unselfish play when she put Goderich ahead by three. Sarah S. made it 4-0 a minute later with the assist going to the always hustling Ella W. Katie R. then made it a difference of five with an explosive wrap around goal. The home town Thunder were finally able to sneak a shot past the consistent Hannah K. in the final minute of the period just as Coach Jane had reminded the bench to keep skating.

Rookie forward, Avery C., got into the scoring act when she found the back of the net to restore the five goal lead. Less than a minute later, Kiara P. initiated a Free Pass to Michaela A. who skated around the Thunder zone before feeding a fabulous pass across the zone to Megan K. who made no mistake in burying all of the hope of the Thunder faithful. Ben C. completed the hat trick to round out the scoring as Goderich cruised back to Huron County with an 8-1 victory.

With all of the goals scored, the most impressive play of the game had nothing to do with the score sheet, but, had everything to do with skating ability in open ice as Sarah S. wowed the crowd by totally “schooled” two St. Thomas pursuers with her edges.

The U14 club now have a couple of practices to prepare for a very difficult schedule in the next month where they will face many of the top teams in the Western Region.
